Protest

Recently through social media technologies, a transnational response of protest has developed about discrimination.  Although centred in the USA, public outcry has resonated in Canada and western Europe.  The freedom of expression in the west is apparent, in view of where public discourse did not happen, where open freedom is not available to populations.  Discrimination is more pervasive than just where there have been public demonstrations.  Although Canadians are fair and reasonable, discrimination is still a societal problem.

I believe the teachings of Christ are violated by discriminatory practices.  People have inherent worth and value, regardless of skin colour, culture, or creed.  Canadians are having a national conversation, on how to move beyond protest into practice, and to use all legitimate means to eliminate unfairness.  Extremist tactics by individuals and organizations must bring their measured response.  However, those tasked with authority have the moral responsibility to work effectively and openly for the evolution of culture, which will truly provide equal rights and opportunities for every person.
