Port Blocked again. Feb 25, 2020
Specifically, in Vancouver’s downtown, street protests can be quickly formed, as often the individuals have little going for them in their lives, and it gives false meaning to their miserableness. Some of them get paid to participate. They are manipulated by very slick professional operatives; the police know who they are.
In the background, the organizers are careful to never break the law (their job is to get others to break the law). Capacity creates its own demand, as the opportunity to offend creates more offenders. The deeper origins of behaviour come from some very dark motives that are against the historical goodness of Canadians. The Canadian social culture of compromise and tolerance makes Canada vulnerable to our social-economic enemies. Make no mistake, that Canada has real enemies who are relishing over the many projects they have managed to kill in the last 15 years.
On Feb 25, the David Suzuki Foundation was jumping on the grave of the cancelled Teck Frontier Project. The Red Braid organization was out in force to again block the Vancouver Port entrance. It is a subversive ultra left-wing group that proposes the overthrow of all democratic institutions in Canada. Their support of Wet'suwet'en chiefs is a cover to damage and deconstruct civil society, and they are unashamed of their virulent Marxism.
Their published explanation says “we are a revolutionary working class and Indigenous organization active on lands occupied by British Columbia, Canada. We practice and advocate for a strategic unity between Indigenous peoples fighting for sovereignty through dismantling colonialism, the national struggles of peoples around the world against imperialism, and the working class for worlds without capitalism. We test our politics through practices of politicizing community survival struggles, political education, protest, and direct action. We prepare to take power away from capitalists and colonizers by increasing the autonomous power of communities where we are, as part of the insurgent working class and Indigenous peoples’ movements of the world.”
It's scary that in 2020, some Canadians are duped by these radicals. They are not harmless. They now have found a way to hijack the country. So far, it appears the federal government is naïve.
The Vancouver street protesters claim they support Wet'suwet'en Sovereignty. However, in law, they don't have such a thing, as it does not exist. If they are born in Canada, they are Canadians. They have asserted a claim against Crown land owned by all British Columbians. Courts have repeatedly clarified, that various Aboriginal groups can negotiate arrangements with the Crown and have standing. The Court has also said Aboriginal groups affected by a project have to be legitimately consulted, but they do not have a veto.
The chiefs in question walked away from the year-long negotiations that were their pathway to a deal about "title". They don't get to dictate in advance the circumstances of negotiations. They must begin to realize the rising aspirations of aboriginal peoples, that they desire to be represented by democratically elected and accountable leadership. The preening of these few renegade chiefs before their own, is a perpetuation of their erroneous ideas of their imaginary hereditary kingdom.
They are using the current pipeline project to leverage a claim over which they won't negotiate. The Courts have repeatedly said that negotiation is the only pathway, and it is not accomplished with public tantrums.
