Canada Flag Day Feb. 15

Liberal Party Statemenrt

55 years ago today, the Canadian flag was flown for the first time in our communities across Canada, on Parliament Hill, and at diplomatic missions around the world. Today, on National Flag of Canada Day, we celebrate both the anniversary of the Maple Leaf and the story it tells of our wonderful country.

In times of uncertainty, the flag reaffirms that the common values that unite us – openness, generosity, peace, and freedom – are stronger than our differences. Over the decades, the Maple Leaf has been a symbol in Canadian art, medals, badges, and coats of arms. It has travelled to the highest peaks on Mount Everest, into space with the first Canadian astronaut, and around the world on the arms of

Canadian Armed Forces members. This summer, Canadian athletes will wear it with pride at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Today, I invite Canadians from coast to coast to coast to reflect on our flag and what it means to each of us – a symbol of our rich history, and a promise of the bright future we are building together.

Conservatives Party Statement

For generations, the maple leaf has been one of the most recognizable and treasured symbols of our nation.

Since almost immediately after Confederation in 1867, our national flag has always featured the maple leaf.  It appeared on the different versions of the Canadian Red Ensign, the national flag under which over 100,000 Canadians died in the defence of our freedoms.

Since 1965, it has been the main feature of our national flag and remains a powerful symbol of our national pride.

Our brave men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces wear it proudly as they stand on guard for our country. Our hard-working first responders and our Olympic and Paralympic athletes display it on their uniforms. It flies over schoolyards and in our backyards. It looks down on the nation’s capital from atop the Peace Tower. And we stitch it to backpacks when we travel abroad so everybody knows we come from the best country in the world.

It stands for freedom, peace, justice, the rule of law, and hope for a better future. It is because of these Canadian values that our flag is recognized and revered around the world.

So today, let us all reflect upon what Canada’s maple leaf means to us and honour the great Canadians who shaped our nation and those who fought to protect it.

On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, happy National Flag Day, Canada!”

yes the Canadian flag is something I used to be proud of. I immigrated in 1993 and i was proud to share with others that I called Canada my home. Yet today I have to think twice if i want to share it, in a way i am still proud to be a Canadian but I am also more and more embarrassed. What is going on at the federal level is just embarrassing. Our PM lies and commits crimes against this country and absolutely nothing happens. He still is permitted to travel the world spreading his lies and ideals. A regular person like you and me would be sitting behind bars for a long time if we do what he does.
Also the federal government (and provincial) let themselves be ruled / bullied by professional cry babies throwing a tantrum (also breaking the law) hiding behind aboriginal rights. A small minority decides what is happening in this land of ours.
I hope there will be a time I can proudly say again "I am Canadian", right now it is looking pretty dark.
